Jim has been a Sandpoint resident since 1982. Prior to joining Tomlinson Black Sandpoint he spent ten years as owner and operator of a downtown retail business. He and his wife Ruth, who is very active in local politics and environmental issues, were born and raised in Maryland, but moved their family to the Colorado front range in the early 70’s to find a better environment. They originally relocated to Sandpoint because they felt a small town would be a better place to raise their children. This strategy apparently worked; his three children, who all graduated at the top of their respective classes at Sandpoint High School, have gone on to college at Swarthmore, Pa, Bates College, Me. and Hampshire College, Ma. Jim Watkins balances his time between listing and selling. He has been with our firm since 1991 and is very successful in both categories. A “Top Producer” in our MLS since ’93 he was THE top producer in our firm in ’96 & ’97 and again in 2004 & 2005. He is past president of Bonner County Assoc. of Realtors, and of both the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club, a local fishery enhancement sportsman’s group and the board of directors of the Clark Fork Pend Oreille Coalition, a tri-state water quality environmental group. An avid fisherman, Jim can often be found (when not working) catching and releasing the huge rainbow trout of Lake Pend Oreille on his boat “At Last”. Jim has received numerous awards for his community service. He is on the Board of Directors of the Clark Fork Pend Oreille Conservancy, a local land trust involved in land conservation. Jim has also served as President of the Rock Creek Alliance, a regional citizens group concerned about the proposed silver mine upstream from our lake. He is often referred to in our office as “The Land Guy”, because of his extensive experience with undeveloped acreage.
